Daily salt intake guidance
These are general feeding references, not fixed doses of the AKMA block. Account for salt already supplied through feed, mineral supplements, and water. Block size does not change an animal’s daily requirement.
| Animal | Daily amount / guidance |
|---|---|
| Adult beef cattle | Maintenance requirements are generally below 1 oz (28 g) per head daily. Dairy and lactating cattle need a ration-specific assessment. |
| Adult goats | A feeding example is 0.28 oz (8 g) of salt in a 400 g grain ration containing 2% salt; this is not a universal daily requirement. |
| Adult horses | Common guidance is 1–2 oz (28–57 g) daily; sweating and hard work can increase requirements. |
| Adult buffaloes | 1.06 oz (30 g) daily has been used in a published feeding study, but it is not a universal recommendation; adjust for body weight, milk yield, and the complete ration. |
